Fundraising Volleyball Tournament for Mackenzie BrownApril 29, 2018, 9:00amWest Franklin High SchoolOn Sunday, April 29th, there will be a 6 on 6 indoor volleyball tournament to benefit Mackenzie Brown and her family, held at West Franklin High School in Pomona, Kansas.
On January 21st Mackenzie collapsed and was rushed to the hospital, where a 1 inch tumor on her cerebellum was found. This tumor turned out to be malignant and called Medullablastoma. It took two surgeries to remove the tumor due to excessive bleeding, and another 2 and a half weeks were spent in ICU while Mackenzie was recovering, where she was then transferred to KU impatient rehab for an additional two weeks. The placement of the tumor affects Mackenzie's balance, walking, voluntary movements, as well as affecting some short term memory and cognitive skills.
Currently Mackenzie is in Topeka doing outpatient therapy 3x a week, and will start radiation on March 19th which will occur 5x a week for at least 6 weeks. After that, they will reassess and start chemo therapy if necessary.
Due to the fact that Mackenzie needs care 24/7, her mother Carrie Vogel is unable to work, and we are putting this tournament together to help out with the financial burden these unfortunate series of events have cause for Mackenzie and her family.
So here we are, supporting Mackenzie the best way we know how, playing the game of volleyball! This is a great opportunity to show our support and have some fun while doing it.
Cost: $10 a player, any additional donations welcome! 100% of proceeds will be given to Mackenzie and her family. Entry deadline: Please try and let us know if you're bringing a team by April 16th, that way we have time to accommodate and make the schedule accordingly. There if no age limit or cap, anyone and everyone is welcome! Depending on the amount of teams interested, we may split the teams up into competitive and recreation divisions.
If you have any questions feel free to message me personally or comment on here! Please share with anyone you might think is interested and invite anyone and everyone you know, the more the merrier!... See MoreSee Less
